Lugia Skeleton

Damn that was fast. This one seemed to take no time at all, and was in fact very easy...except of course for THE 3429140 VERTEBRAE to do at the end... Dx

Lugia is my second favorite Pokémon, and was my fave for six long years until Lucario finally bested him. T_T SO while my first favorite Poké got its skeleton done fourth, my second gets done fifth (...and my third got done third. ). I've always admired its fantastically bizarre anatomy, like a seamless transition of bird and dragon, marine and aerial.

Notes:

- Pelvis, FOR ONCE, was quite easy. In fact, despite its reptilian appearance, make no mistake: Lugia is definitely a bird, and much of its main body does not differ significantly from ordinary birds'. Its feet are the first main deviation, being far more like a dinosaur's, except padded along the sole, almost like a mammal's.

- The skull was by far the most fun to draw, since it is so decidedly unique. The crests over the eyes are cartilage, almost like ears. Lugia's beak is mostly covered by skin and feathers, except at the mouth edge. The two prominent caniniform teeth are the only visible teeth—the rest are small and triangular inside the jaw, used for gripping fish.

- The wing fingers are not fused together like ordinary birds', instead splayed outward like a hand. There is not skin stretched between them like in a dragon, however—they simply are the base for the prominent wing tip feathers. Most of Lugia's other feathers are tightly folded together and waterproof.

- The long reptilian tail is of course a striking difference from normal birds. The tip of the tail is framed by two outward curving spikes. Lugia does not commonly use these for attack—they seem to aid in using the tail to stir wind currents.


Hope you like! My Lucario skeleton may still be my favorite, but I quite like this one too. My next one will either be Rayquaza or Mewtwo. Mewtwo would be similar to Lucario, and mostly humanoid, but I'll be sure to base the exact shape of each bone on a cat's. And Rayquaza... actually...no, I don't want to do him...I'm sick of ridiculous amounts of vertebrae. *_* Maybe I'll just do Palkia out of nowhere.
